The Saint Mary Schola is dedicated to bringing seldom heard music to New England audiences. The sacred repertoire offers master works of uncanny beauty and mystery that uplift the soul. In the secular realm, we present such projects as the Monteverdi madrigals, challenging and delightful pieces that are not heard very often, even in such cities as Boston and New York. One goal of the Schola has always been to present this music at a very high professional level. Our artists have advanced degrees in music, individual solo careers and decades of performance experience. The remuneration is usually only $100 - $150 per person, which really results in an honorarium. This is because we rehearse months in advance, and since some members live an hour away, the cost of gas alone mounts up. As modest as our remuneration is, the ticket sales from our concerts only cover about one-third of our budget. Other expenses include the rental of concert venues, posters, publicity, program printing, recording and purchasing of music. It is only through kind donations from our friends that we can end up with a balanced budget. Offering a monetary gift, no matter how small (or big!), ensures that the vision of the Schola can continue. There is an endless repertoire of magnificent music waiting out there for us to offer to you!
